The MQ-5 Gas Sensor Module is a combustible gas detection module designed for sensing gases such as LPG, natural gas, methane, propane, and butane. The sensing element uses tin dioxide (SnO₂), which has relatively low conductivity in clean air and increases in conductivity when combustible gases are present.
As the concentration of combustible gas increases, the sensor output changes accordingly, allowing the module to provide both analog and digital output signals for use with microcontrollers, controllers, alarms, and monitoring systems.
The module includes an onboard comparator circuit that provides a digital TTL output (DO) and an analog output (AO). The analog output voltage generally increases as the detected gas concentration increases, while the digital output can be used for threshold-based gas detection.
The MQ-5 module is suitable for home gas leakage alarms, industrial gas monitoring systems, LPG detection, natural gas monitoring, safety projects, Arduino projects, ESP32 applications, and educational electronics experiments.
